The Booker T. Washington Learning Center, located in East Harlem, is a remarkable non-profit multiservice center that has been serving the community since 1987. We have offered a range of comprehensive educational programs, catering to various age groups and needs.  These include:

• Preschool: Providing a nurturing environment for young learners, preparing them for their educational journey.

• Afterschool: Programs: Supporting students beyond regular school hours, offering homework assistance, enrichment activities, and mentorship.

• Summer Camp: A fun and educational haven during the summer break, where children engage in creative projects, sports, and exploration.

• New Gen: Guiding high school students toward higher education, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge. Supporting them throughout the college experience until successful completion.

Recognizing the challenges faced by families, the center offers support and alternatives. It becomes a beacon of hope, steering individuals away from violence and toward positive paths. For many children and families, the Booker T. Washington Learning Center is more than an institution—it’s a second family and a second home. It provides a sense of belonging, safety, and care. We know that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. That is why we are committed to actively helping families find a way out of economic hardship by empowering them by providing educational and financial resources, guidance and opportunities for enrichment.

Besides improving their own futures, we have a strong value for community and service to others.  This is seen in many ways at Booker T.  because we know that a quality education isn’t just about acquiring facts; it can and should be a catalyst for societal transformation. The center believes that educated individuals can drive positive change within their community. That is why community service is embedded in every program we offer. 

The children who pass through these doors emerge as resilient, successful individuals. 

 

The center doesn’t work in isolation. It collaborates with community partners, pooling resources and expertise to offer a myriad of services. Together, we create a safety net for East Harlem's children and their families. Our success is far reaching because of those who support our work.  

 

The heart of our program is our team of dedicated staff members and volunteers that work together, across all o our programs to realize our mission. They believe in the potential of every child, and they work tirelessly to help each child build their confidence, develop a strong work ethic and fall in love with learning. Their commitment ensures the center’s effectiveness.
